Keeping Babies Safe exists to provide leadership in keeping babies safe from preventable injuries and deaths associated with unsafe cribs, dangerous children's products and unsafe sleep environments.

History
On May 20th, 2006, volunteers gathered in San Leandro, Ca. to form and kick off Keeping Babies Safe, Inc... We are known affectionately as "The KBS Group."

The organization has its origins in the now defunct Danny Foundation. The accomplishments of The Danny Foundation in the area of crib safety were remarkable, but there is much yet to be done. To that end, KBS will expand the mission of The Danny Foundation to include all child products with an emphasis on cribs and safe sleep environments for babies.

The Board of Directors of KBS has over 60 year's professional experience in child product safety. Board President, Lee Baxter, is retired from a distinguished career of over 30 years as Western Region Director of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Executive Director, Jack Walsh, with 19 years experience in crib safety, is recognized nationally as an expert in the field of child product safety.

The strategy of KBS is to establish a strong foundation with realistic goals and a budget to match. It is a completely volunteer organization of committed and dedicated people. For the first year, KBS shall maintain a professional web site, develop and distribute educational materials, and monitor the juvenile product industry for compliance with safety regulations.

Babies continue to die at an alarming rate from unsafe cribs and unsafe sleeping environments. In one ten year period, 500 babies died from sleeping on adult beds and 300 died in unsafe cribs. We can and we shall do better.

KBS has the case; it recognizes a need not addressed by others; it is incorporated with non-profit, 501-c-3 status; it enjoys professional leadership.
