Lee Baxter, Co-founder of Keeping Babies Safe and its first President, passes away
Lee Baxter, age 68, Co-founder of Keeping Babies Safe and its first President, died May 22, 2008 following a long battle with cancer. Lee retired from his position as Western Regional Director of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission in 1997 after a 37 year career with the federal government. KBS benefited enormously from Lee's experience as he directed the fledgling organization into a solid position as a non-profit dedicated to crib and child product safety with an emphasis on safe sleeping environments for babies.

Lee was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Walnut Creek, Ca. In addition to serving as President of KBS, Lee volunteered at Ana Nuevo State Reserve, The Lindsay Wildlife Museum, and local community repertory theaters where he was an usher. Lee enjoyed playing guitar, singing, cooking, gardening, biking and all outdoor activities.

Lee is survived by his wife of 15 years, Patricia Baxter; daughters Carol Tanner and Frances Baxter; stepson Paul Roberge, mother, Mildred Metz, grandchildren, brothers, nieces and nephews.

Lee was passionate about the mission of KBS. One of his greatest desires was that KBS continue to grow and flourish so that parents and care givers might one day be free of the fear of losing a child because of an unsafe crib, child product or an unsafe sleeping situation. Those wishing may send memorial contributions in Lee Baxter's name to Keeping Babies Safe, 181 Best Ave., San Leandro, Ca 94577.
